    Question

Do someone have informations about this vintage cabinet? It should have been used with the 604/5 duplex.
    Thanks for help.

    Hi fvale,

I dug up the following old Altec product sheet description from the early 60s:

    ALTEC ENCLOSURE MODEL 854A/B
The same cabinet used in the 837A and 838A systems may be ordered without sound components as model 854A/B which is of the infinite baffe type. This model is constructed to house any Altec Biflex and Duplex 12" or 15" Speaker. For an example - you may decide to choose an Altec 605A duplex. Here you'll discover the ingredients for a very happy music marriage . . . moreover, the personal satisfaction of putting together a "kit" speaker system of your choice to complement your fine tastes and good judgement.
    Dimensions: 29 3/4" H x 35" L x 17 3/4" D.

Altec listed the internal volume of ths cab at 6.4ft^3. The 837A (Avalon) housed a single 414A 12" woofer and an 804A compression driver/ 811B sectoral horn with an N800E crossover. The 838A (Carmel) used two 414As for the bass section. Both were bass reflex designs. I guess it's possible to find one of six different Altec woofer components in an 854.

    Jeff
